When we are looking to learn what our greatness is, we need to find what our power/purpose is.  We may be challenged to understand or define our purpose. One way to aid in understanding our purpose is to look at why we do certain things. When we understand our purpose, our ability to increase our grit to overcome adversity increases dynamically.  Therein we achieve 2 distinct benefits, one in which we deepen our understanding of ourselves and increase our resilience/grit and second, we focus upon and help other people.  Angela Duckworth in her book “Grit” describes grit paragons:

“When I talk to grit paragons, and they tell me that what they’re pursuing has purpose, they mean something much deeper than mere intention.” “When I probe, asking, “Can you tell me more? What do you mean?” Always—always—those next sentences mention other people. “However they say it, the message is the same: the long days and evenings of toil, the setbacks and disappointments and struggle, the sacrifice—all this is worth it because, ultimately, their efforts pay dividends to other people.”

What greater purpose can each of us achieve than helping others? Perhaps this is achieved serving family, serving coworkers, serving strangers, giving time to the needy. Regardless of whom we are serving, providing service to others enables increased grit in our life.  Why is grit so important? A Japanese proverb gives the answer “Fall down seven times, get up eight times”.  Grit gives us the ability to get up ONE MORE TIME, therein lies the ability to accomplish great things.

Tag someone that is challenge to understand their greatness and help them find their purpose and increase their grit.
