One of the greatest challenges in our adult lives is learning to truly believe in ourselves.  Often we find ourselves comparing attributes, successes, etc. of others to our accomplishments. In this exercise, we find ourselves wanting, wanting to be something or someone different than we really are. Marianna Pogosyan, PhD, wrote in Psychology Today:

Indeed, countless research studies have shown that having high self-efficacy can help us pursue our goals, cope effectively with stress, engage in health-promoting behaviors, and have better psychological well-being. (July, 2022)

Self-efficacy- believing in ourselves. Believing in ourselves, as noted by Marianna Pogosyan, PhD, allows us to help manage our health, physically and mentally. So why is it so hard to believe in ourselves, to have self-efficacy? Because we are focused upon an “all or nothing” mindset. We are either really good or really bad at something. We give little to no credit for achieving success, we measure the size of our success against that of others. For instance, how do we measure someone else’s success in achieving true happiness? Perhaps they have more money than we do.  Does that make them happier than we are , or more successful than we are? Do the accomplishments we achieve somehow diminish in our minds as we compare those successes to successes of others? The only bet we need to make is on ourselves and our greatness. Each person is enabled with the gifts, intelligence, and capacity to achieve their UNIQUE greatness. In her book Hidden Genius, author Polina Marinova Pompliano writes:

“Once we’ve reached a certain level of success, we get comfortable and complacent. We wrap our identities around jobs, relationships, and material possessions—all things we could lose. Over time, we begin to trust ourselves less, and leave our destinies in other people’s hands. It’s the one thing preventing us from unlocking our own hidden genius: We are scared to bet on ourselves.”

Are you afraid to bet on yourself? Do you know someone struggling to believe in their unique abilities, to see themselves as great? If so, tag them in and help them to believe and bet on a sure thing, themselves! #believe#self-efficacy#betonyourself
